01

Make somewhere to land

An entrance needs somewhere for keys, a bag and the shoes you use most. A shallow shelf and two strong hooks can be enough. Keep the door’s opening area clear.

02

Give coats some space

Leave room between coats so they can dry and air. Check hook fixings and avoid overloading a narrow rack. Store out-of-season items elsewhere where possible.

03

Light the way

Add even lighting that helps you see shoes and steps. If you use a mirror, position it to reflect useful natural light without creating glare near the doorway.

04

Keep one small seasonal basket

Gather gloves, sun hats or umbrellas in one easy-to-reach place. Review the basket when the season changes. A welcoming entrance is one that makes leaving the house easier, too.
